Customer Energy Efficiency Program
Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E)
BASE performs integrated energy assessments of
large manufacturing, institutional, and commercial
customers in PG&E’s vast Northern and
Central California territory as part of PG&E’s
Customer Energy Efficiency Program for
non-residential retrofit. Since 2001, BASE has
been assigned over 100 audit projects for facilities
including various industrial plants (cardboard,
lumber mills, etc.), foundries, dairies, food
processing plants, biotechnology plants, hospitals,
school facilities, data centers and large office
buildings. Facilities are assessed for energy
efficiency, demand response, cogeneration, and
renewable energy projects. Based on our past performance,
BASE was awarded a 3-year contract that will run
through 2008.
Savings-By-Design Program
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E)
BASE enjoys the
largest project category assignment of PG&E’s
Savings By Design program to evaluate
Non-Residential New Construction (NRNC)
projects of manufacturing and agricultural facilities.
Since 2005, we have completed design reviews of
facilities including wineries, dairies, a district
heating plant, irrigation pumping projects, fresh
water pumping stations, sewer pumping stations,
and wastewater treatment plants. Based on our
past performance, BASE has been awarded a contract
extension that will run through 2007.

Measurement
and Valuation Program
Southern California Edison (SCE)
BASE and GeoPraxis of Sonoma, CA have teamed to evaluate
the innovative Industrial Value & Energy Mapping (VeSM)
Advantage Program designed to improve manufacturers’
energy efficiency through improving productivity. The VeSM
program, funded by the California Public Utilities Commission
(CPUC), is implemented by California Manufacturing Technology
Consulting (CMTC) and administered by SCE. The BASE/GeoPraxis
team is developing the measurement and verification (M&V)
methodology and performing the M&V of the implemented
projects.
Funded Plant-Wide Assessments
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
Starting in 2006, BASE will perform a detailed, plantwide
assessment of AMCOR PET in Fairfield, CA. This assessment
is expected to yield significant energy savings for the
plant.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Hot Water Loop
City of Sunnyvale
BASE and its subcontractor Kennedy/Jenks are assessing opportunities
to improve the performance and energy efficiency of the
City of Sunnyvale’s wastewater treatment hot water
loop. The existing digester/cogeneration system will be
examined and evaluated for heat recovery and energy utilization.
Potential secondary improvements, currently outside the
project scope, include increased digester gas output.
Energy Audits of Wineries and
Related-Facilities
Récolte Energy (Calistoga,
CA)
BASE has an open-ended partnership with Récolte Energy
of Calistoga, CA to provide energy auditing services to
Récolte’s winery customers. Récolte
Energy provides solar power consulting services to wineries
throughout Northern California’s wine-producing regions.
BASE performs comprehensive energy audits of the facilities
to reduce the size and cost of the solar photovoltaic (PV)
power system being considered for installation.
Technical
Assistance
Southern California Gas Company
BASE has an open contract with Southern California Gas Company
to evaluate Energy Efficiency Grant Program customer applications
and provide technical assistance on other energy efficiency
projects as needed. As part of the project we have developed
M&V plans for large, sophisticated gas-consuming equipment
such as thermal oxidizers serving multiple emission sources,
and we have evaluated the heat recovery from large steam
boilers.
